Bolivia promotes imports of electric and hybrid vehicles and announces installation of the first charging points
07/08/2021 Since 3 years

The Government of Bolivia enacted Supreme Decree No. 4539, of July 7th 2021, which establishes tax and financial incentives for the import of electric and hybrid vehicles and the assembly of electric and hybrid agricultural machinery in order to promote energy savings and efficiency.

To achieve this objective, a tariff tax (GA in Spanish) of 0% and a decrease of the specific consumption tax (ICE in Spanish) for electric and hybrid vehicles are established.

Additionally, the National Electricity Company (ENDE) has a 90 days period to assemble the necessary structure to build the charging stations for electric vehicles.

At a press conference, the Minister of Economy and Public Finance, Marcelo Montenegro, stated: “We are convinced that this type of regulation will help the national economy, it will promote energy savings in terms of modernising the vehicle fleet with electric vehicles”.

Finally, it also establishes tax incentives for equipment and/or accessories for energy systems and distributed generation, modifying the GA rates for the import of recharging systems, bidirectional and smart meters, inverters and goods.
