This forum helped to raise awareness of a wide range of national development banks, local financial institutions and other relevant private and public actors on the opportunities and challenges of mobilizing international climate financing. Further, the event provided a platform to discuss:
• Opportunities and challenges for the implementation of the Green Climate Fund from the perspective of national development banks and local financial institutions
• The role of treasuries and national development banks to not only influence the design of new international climate finance mechanisms for more effective channeling of credit in local markets, but also to leverage these resources with other public resources and/or international and local private investment to finance projects for climate change mitigation and adaptation
• The experiences with existing international climate funds as well as with market mechanisms, to learn from them and incorporate them into new financing mechanisms
• Recommendations for mechanisms of climate financing that could be relevant for international forums and processes in the field such as the Rio +20 Conference in June 2012 and the Conference on Climate Change in December 2012.
