This is the summit meeting of the Latin American and Caribbean development banking system where key aspects and trends affecting the region’s development and its financing, together with the role of those institutions, are analyzed.

The question that comes to mind as we struggle against this three-fold crisis -economic, health and environmental- is: Should we continue to do things as we have in the past, or should we move toward a change, if our intention is to see different results from the outlook of human development? The return to a new normality will reflect changes in how production activities are carried out, in our social relationships and in how we interact with the environment.

The key topic, “Beyond the three-fold crisis: continuity or change?” will be addressed by means of three panels that will give priority to:
i) digital transformation in the banking sector and support for SME digitalization as it boosts change in regional production patterns;
ii) financial inclusion of women and their enterprises in keeping with gender equity goals and their contribution to the national product; and
iii) mechanisms that will help to empower a sustainable green post-pandemic recovery. The potential of, challenges to, and opportunities for development finance institutions in the shaping of the new scenario will be discussed in terms of each of these three areas.
