This edition reaches you in a fast-paced environment, with global preparations for the UN Biodiversity and UN Climate Change (COP26) Conferences as a background. In addition, the global UN campaign ‘Race to Zero’ has reached Brazil and successfully mobilized Brazilian states, cities and companies.
By means of the ‘Under2 Coalition’, an alliance of local governments committed to the goals of the Paris Agreement, four Brazilian states (Minas Gerais, Pará, Pernambuco and São Paulo) are committing to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Six other states have formalized their applications to the coalition. Also 12 cities, including the largest capitals in the country, as well as more than 100 Brazilian companies, joined the alliance. All these stakeholders have ambitions to plan and implement concrete measures, and to keep themselves accountable to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
