Colombia agrees roadmap for final adherence to the IEA
09/07/2021 Since 3 years

A virtual meeting was recently held between the President of Colombia, Iván Duque, together with the Ministers of Mines and Energy, Diego Mesa, and of Environment and Sustainable Development, Carlos Correa, and the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Fatih Birol, in order to define the roadmap that Colombia will follow to complete the process of definitive appointment to the Agency.

During the meeting they also agreed to work together on the Energy Transition and the role that the Agency will play in supporting Colombia’s objectives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 51% by year 2030 and to achieve the goal of becoming a carbon neutral country by 2050.

Colombia currently has 15 farms, 7 large-scale self-generation projects and more than 1,500 small-scale self-generation solar PV projects contributing a total of 304 MW. Additionally, at the end of October 2021, the results of the Third Renewable Auction of Colombia will be published and the award will be made.
